The Claghorn Lesem Research Clinic is located in the Heights subdivision, Houston's oldest community. The clinic's mission is to test the efficacy of various psychopharmaceutical treatments on resident patients suffering from various mental disorders. The owner had determined to use manufactured modular construction for the building shell. Working with the manufacturer, we increased the flexibility of the product, and modified it to on-site additions. Determinations of overall appearance and setting were made to best respond to the inherent needs of the operation and its impact on the community. The interiors were closely coordinated with the architecture to make a unified design that is creative yet meets the security requirements inherent in such an operation.
