Emeritus Corporation retained the architect to design this addition to their existing Assisted Living Facility in Colorado Springs. This addition service Alzheimers and memory loss residents, and addresses their specific needs not readily served in a traditional Assisted Living facility. The project has amenities such as “life stations” along the hallways that are outfitted with memorabilia from the past representing the active lives of current residents. Similar smaller displays are located adjacent to the entry to each unit. The courtyard is well landscaped and provides pathways for strolling, benches for rest, ceiling fans on a covered porch, and a supplemental potting room that allows residents to participate in gardening activities. A “country kitchen” serves a similar function for those who like to bake or prepare dishes. The project also includes an ice cream parlor, beauty salon, living room, activity room, treatment room, and a full service kitchen which serves this building as well as the existing Assisted Living facility. This type facility is intended to recall a “home” environment rather than an institutional one, so the colors and finishes, as well as lighting, furnishings and accessories are geared toward that objective.
